How and when did you start training?

When I was younger I was a bit on the chubby side. In middle school I was made fun of because of my chunky bottom so during the summer between 8th grade and freshman year I started hitting the weights with my mum, who did bodybuilding in the late 80’s. I would do bodyweight exercises and run for miles in the mountains around the small town I lived in when I couldn’t make it to the middle school gym. I was immediately hooked! The soreness from a good workout always made me feel better about myself and slowly, my pant sizes shrunk.

Please describe a typical day for you.
What is your daily routine like?

5:00am I’m up and headed to the gym (of course, I eat right after waking), if I have clients my own training goes from 7:00am to about 8:00am. Right after I’ve hit the weights and cardio I break out my bag of oats and cook up some egg whites to get my day off right. I answer as many messages on my networking sites as possible and squeeze in a blog or two when I have the time. I work at a real estate office from 10:00am to 4:00pm then back to the gym for more clients, and extra cardio if I’m close to a shoot or show. I like to stay busy and that’s exactly what my day is!

What is your training routine like?

Monday:
Shoulders! I always perform heavy presses with reps around 8, heavy lateral raises and heavy rear delt exercises. Depending on the week I may add in tricep work with close grip bench, incline skulls and reverse grip pressdowns.

Tuesday:
Back & Bi’s LOTS of chins or kip ups, heavy rows (bent over, seated, single arm). My biceps fatigue quickly so I usually do only two or three moves, making sure to hit them from every angle. Incline DB curl, concentration or spider curls and standing barbell curls.

Wednesday:
Plyometric leg day! Box jumps, jump squats, lunge hops (Iron Mikes), tuck jumps, stag jumps, high skips, etc. This workout varies from week to week depending on if I’ve found a new exercise but they are always 3-4 sets of 20-25 reps.

Thursday:
Off/Light cardio. I’ve kicked up my routine to be more intense so I now take 2 days off each week to prevent burn out and overtraining.

Friday:
Chest with high rep push ups, heavy incline press and flye and flat bench. I don’t go too heavy and chest because my chest grows quickly. That may sounds goofy, but when you notice your pecs in every picture it needs to tone down just a bit. So I keep everything but incline high rep (15-20).

Saturday:
HEAVY leg day. Expect plenty of single leg exercises, super sets of squats, walking lunges and hack squat and leg press. If I’m close to a shoot or show I’ll super set all heavy exercises with a plyometric exercise.

Sunday:
OFF

 

 

What is your diet like?

I keep my carb intake relatively low.

Here’s an example of my day:

Meal 1:
1 slice Ezekiel bread w/1 T natural peanut butter
1 scoop whey

Meal 2:
½ c. oats
1 scoop whey
3 egg whites (if I’m still hungry)

Meal 3:
Almonds (I eat a fairly large amount ~3/4 c)
1 scoop whey

Meal 4:
Chicken breast ~5oz
Raw/Steamed Veggies
½ sweet potato

Meal 5:
Egg whites or some other quick protein

Meal 6:
Chicken Breast/Lean Red Meat
Steamed Veggies

Favorite cheat food?

Chocolate!

How do you deal with cravings for junk,
sweets and salty food?

I stock up on healthy alternatives like raw almonds, dry roasted almonds, celery with peanut butter, protein bars (although I try to keep these to a minimum), raw veggies, and I may even have a piece of dark chocolate once in a while.

Who are your favourite figure competitors,
athletes or fitness models?

A given would be Jamie Eason. She’s accomplished so much and still has time to give to her “fans”. She’s very real and extremely optimistic. Over the last year I’ve been able to meet a lot of people in the fitness industry and they are all truly amazing. The fitness industry is such a positive community and I feel blessed to be a part of it.

What are your top three exercises?

Jump Squats - How do you think I got this booty?
Burpees - An exercise you’ll never love and never stop feeling the benefits.
Hanging Leg Raise - They took my abs to a whole new level.

What is the most challenging thing you deal
with about consistently staying in top shape?

I’m a carboholic! My body reacts quickly to the carbs I consume so sticking to a low carb diet is a MUST, yet I still find myself rapidly downing cups of brown rice or slices of Ezekiel bread in one sitting. I also have a hard time with cardio occasionally so I constantly look for new ways to break a sweat without stepping onto a piece of equipment.

What is your best body part?

A lot of people know me for my abs, I’ll stick to that one although my legs are finally starting to come around as well.

…And your best body part in a man?

The “V” on the hip… always been a big fan! I can’t even tell you why, it’s just extremely sexy to me.

What is the number one philosophy you live by?

Optimism & hard work are the only way to achieve great things.

What 3 tips would you give to any woman wanting to get a feminine, CutAndJacked physique like yours?

  1. Lift heavy weight! Never be afraid to tell the big guys in your gym to move over while you pick up those 40’s.
  2. Believe. If you don’t believe in yourself no one will, you’ll have hard days but you MUST stay as positive as you can. You CAN and you WILL achieve every goal you set.
  3. Ask questions. No one starts out knowing everything, make sure you do your research and test the waters.
