The first time ever was wanting to spend time with my Dad when I was a teenager. He was 6’8” and JACKED (see what I did there) I just thought it was so powerful! When I really got serious was just within the last 5 years. I wanted something GOOD to focus on outside of my career as an Interior Designer.
I have managed to build a SMALL gym in my living room to get all my normal lifts in. I have always trained in a gym but only utilized a small portion of the machines. I normally get an entire lift in doing a maximum of 3 or 4 different moves. The equipment I use is a good straight bar with a variety of plates and a reliable bench! As for cardio I have ALWAYS been a huge fan of outdoor cardio and live in a 36 story building.
Your mornings will dictate the rest of your day. Hold yourself accountable for the first 3 hours of your day! Making good choices in the morning will set your mood BIG time!
Think BRIGHT, ENERGY, FRESH, AND READY TO GO!
Make your bed, open the curtains, let some sun hit your skin… and even putting gym clothes on will get you in the mood. The key is to BE READY, be proactive. Motivation is never there when you need it. So cultivate it, or at least be presentable and “photo ready” when the motivation decides to sneak up. LOL
Cardio has always been a part of my life. I find it not only helpful in body fat maintenance, but helpful mentally, and digestively. As for what works best for me, a few do for sure! For fat loss and sculpting I do quick stair sprints, sprint training and 400m lunges. For general health maintenance, a steady-state run is simple and relaxing and I love that it can be done almost anywhere.
I’ve taken the last 5 years to pair my food choices back a lot. I finally took the time to realize that FOOD was causing me certain ailments! I started cutting out anything processed, dairy, red meat, gluten, and certain added sugars. OH BOY DID I FEEL BETTER!!!
So my diet is made up of a combination of heavy proteins (chicken, eggs, beans, salmon, cod, and pea protein) moderate to heavy fats (avocado, egg yolks, nuts, and coconut oils) and light carbs centered around my lifts and cardio (fruits, all types of rice, oats, homemade waffles!, vegan ice cream, etc..)
MUSIC CREATES EMOTION!
I love that you’re asking this question! My trainer always stressed to me how I couldn’t dance around to Justin Timberlake during my lifts! It made me HAPPY! It turns out that ‘happy’ wasn’t an emotion that fueled my intensity in the gym.
It turns out that ANGER does…. Being HARD does!
So I listen to DEATH METAL. The deep kind where you can hardly understand what they are yelling about. I love it. I get lost in it. Check out “Indians” by GOJIRA.
I’m finishing up my first Fitness APP right now. This is the start of me taking fitness and sharing it outside of Instagram. Thus far, I have gone along this fitness journey completely solo (with my trainer) and competed along the way. I’m so excited to give my fitness in a way that will bring it PAST inspiration. So THEY can now begin to INSPIRE themselves and others too! Ugh, that sounds so lovely.
You can sign up to be the first to hear about my Fitness APP. Head over to LauraMarieAPP.com
Kai Greene because “Thoughts Become Things”. He has been able to verbalize the process of change. He has always sparked some sort of positive and motivating response from me. I look forward to seeing where his career takes him!
Shaq! Because come on, it’s SHAQ! His career is SO impressive. And then looking at everything else he has accomplished and still continues to accomplish is outstanding. And his music is AWESOME to lift too (DJ Diesel)
My trainer. To be able to coach ME through what I went through is an IMPRESSIVE feat. They never let me down along the way and ALWAYS kept me accountable.
I train 6 days a week with SUNDAY being my day to do absolutely nothing. My training days are very simple. I will do at least 1 day of fasted cardio first thing in the morning. I lift in the afternoon, and a bit closer to 5pm on cardio days. My lifts are lower body focused and mainly compound movements. I lift heavy and to failure, with a strict timed rest in between. It goes by fast and heavy metal is certainly the glue.
I currently am only taking a vegan vanilla protein. And it goes wonderfully with orange juice as well!
1. Know that everything takes time, but it’s up to YOU on HOW MUCH time. The more committed you are to that goal, the more intensity you will put in to everything. You will progress faster.
2. If fat loss is an immediate goal, focus on food first. Throw the word diet away and just think about food, portions, timing, comfort, ease of prep and so on. That will get you in a powerful and healthy mindset! Start to see the changes in the mirror first and bring that confidence to the gym with a BANG!
3. Keep things fun for yourself and others. That will keep things forever going!
