How and when did you start training?

I started lifting weights in college, but I started training for competitions in January 2010! I had a friend who used to do fitness shows and every time we would work out together she would say how I had to train for a show, at least once LOL she said she knew I would love it and be totally hooked if I just tried it! It’s funny now because she knew me so well! Once I trained for and competed in my first show in March 2010, I was completely addicted.

How long do you spend in the gym during
a typical workout?

On an ideal day, I would spend about 90 minutes in the gym, broken up into 30 min of cardio and 60 minutes for my lift. When possible, I love doing an AM and PM split.

How do you manage to stay motivated?

I am always setting new goals and striving to be better. I will usually have a few goals that I am striving for at one time so if I reach one goal, there are still others to keep me focused. I think the other thing that keeps me motivated is the fact that I truly love the process and love fitness!

What types of cardio have worked best for you?

When I am off-season, I LOVE running sprints on the treadmill and running stairs! When I am in-season, I do a lot of low impact cardio with high intensity intervals. You can find me on the step-mill, elliptical and in a lot of indoor cycling classes.

What is your training routine like?

My schedule changes every month but here is what I am doing right now.

What does your diet consist of?

Diet consists of lots of lean protein, veggies and complex carbs. While it changes slightly during show prep and off-season, the basic foundation stays the same. Here is a sample day:

Meal 1
4-5 egg whites and 1/3 cup oats
(Top Secret Nutrition Diet Accelerator, TSN digestive enzymes, HMB)

Meal 2
½ apple and 1 scoop Top Secret Nutrition Whey Protein

Meal 3
4 oz. ground turkey breast, 2 cups kale or green beans, 4 oz. yams
(HMB, TSN digestive enzymes)

Meal 4
4 oz. tuna, 1 cup cabbage, chopped onion and red bell pepper

Meal 5
1 scoop TSN Whey Protein

Meal 6
5 oz. white fish or 4 oz. chicken breast, 2 cups salad (add tomato, onion, red bell pepper), 1 ½ cups asparagus or zucchini (TSN digestive enzymes)

What are you most proud of?

I married the most amazing man about 3 and a half years ago! I am most proud of the solid marriage that I am building with him. He has been an amazing support since I started competing and much of my success is directly related to my husband’s encouragement.

How do you deal with cravings for junk foods,
sweets and salty food?

HA!!! During off season, I give myself a treat meal once a week ☺ Knowing that treat meal is coming REALLY helps me stay focused during the week! Another thing I do is cook a bunch of food at one time. I will have 4-5 days of food made and ready to go so that if I have a craving, I don’t really have an excuse to get it…I have food at home waiting for me.
This last show prep, I really focused on making sure I enjoyed my “diet” food. I experimented with different vinegars and spices to find combinations that I enjoyed and that didn’t make me feel like I was cutting anything out. It was the smoothest prep that I have had so far!

What are your top three exercises and why?

  1. Walking Lunges: I honestly just love doing lunges LOL it’s crazy I know but I really enjoy the movement and the burn in your quads and butt when you are doing high reps! I also LOVE how lunges tighten and lift my butt.
  2. Jump Squats: (of any kind) wide stance, close stance, over the step, whatever!!! I love them because they are fun to do and a great way to add cardio bursts into a workout.
  3. Bent over wide rows at Smith Machine: I love the feel of this exercise! Love how I can feel every muscle in my back engaging as I move through each rep.

Who are your favourite figure competitors,
athletes or fitness models?

I love Jamie Eason (who doesn’t, right?), Missy Coles, Erin Stern and Nathalia Melo.

What 3 tips would you give to any woman wanting to get a feminine, CutandJacked physique like yours?

  2. Enjoy the Process!!! Know that this takes time, just be committed to doing your best each day.
  3. Have some accountability! Tell a trusted friend or family member about your goals and let their support and honesty help you reach your goals!

What is the number one philosophy you live by?

Be your best ALWAYS. There is no off-season on the journey to greatness.
